Step into Christmas - Music for a Christmas Wedding

Updated: Aug 16, 2019

Are you planning a wedding in December? Do you love the idea of a Christmas wedding? Are you looking forward to seeing the venue beautifully decorated and lit for Christmas?

Will you be adding some Christmassy touches to your table decorations (eg: mini tree on each table); bouquet, bridesmaids’ flowers and buttonholes (eg: mistletoe, red berries etc.), or perhaps even your dress (see blog post 'White Wedding Dress or Splash of Colour')?

You clearly love Christmas, so have you thought about including some Christmas music into your ceremony? This could be your processional/recessional (entrance/exit) music, or even songs which are incorporated into the ceremony instead of (or as well as) a reading - a great way to involve all your guests.

Whether you like the idea of including a Christmas Carol or two, or prefer something more modern, you can be sure to find a piece of music which would suit you.

Here are just a few ideas:

Winter - from The Four Seasons, by Vivaldi

If you start from about 2mins 45sec into the piece, it is the perfect soundtrack to your walk down the aisle - even better if you are using a string quartet.

Glasgow Love Theme, from Love Actually

This instrumental from everyone’s favourite Christmas rom-com is ideal for your processional, and gives a subtle nod to the season without screaming ‘It’s Christmaaaaas!’

All l Want for Christmas is You

What else - surely one of the most appropriate songs for a Christmas wedding!

The Sussex Carol

This jaunty, upbeat Carol is always popular at carol services across the country, but any favourite Carol would work just as well.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

This one works particularly well if you are using a professional singer/choir, or if you have a friend who would rather sing than give a reading!

Troika - from Lieutenant Kije Suite by Prokofiev

Conjuring up images of a winter sleigh ride, complete with bells, this would be lovely for your recessional.

All You Need is Love

OK, so not a Christmas song, but it is used in the wedding scene at the beginning of ‘Love Actually’ - and who hasn’t enjoyed singing along to this at one time or another?

So, embrace the season and have a wonderful Winter wedding and “though it’s been said many times, many ways, Merry Christmas to you”.
