After what seems like rain every day since the start of the year, we've finally had one or two days of sunshine (hooray!) and that has made me think about couples planning an outdoor wedding ceremony. The magic and beauty of them and, yes, the reality of planning one in the UK!

Why Outdoors?
There's something undeniably romantic about saying your vows outside.
Open sky. Birdsong. The soft warmth of a spring or summer afternoon. No venue interior can quite replicate that feeling and, here in the UK, we're spoilt for choice when it comes to settings.
From the lush, green beauty of the South Downs, to the dramatic coastlines of Cornwall, the picturesque lakes in the Lake District, or your own beautiful garden. There really is something for every couple.
There is no "Plan B"
But, here's the thing nobody really wants to think about, but everyone should. It's so important to have a contingency plan if you're planning an outdoor ceremony. But the real trick is not to think of it as a lesser option.
Instead, think of it like this: there is no Plan B, just your other brilliant option!
The secret is to plan both with equal love and attention. The same care given to the layout, the same excitement about how it will feel. Do that, and something shifts. Instead of dreading the rain, you'll find yourself genuinely torn between the two. Some couples even admit afterwards that they were almost disappointed not to get to use their indoor setting because it turned out to be just as beautiful as the outdoor one they'd originally imagined!
That's exactly where you want to be.

Kirsty & Olli's Story
Kirsty and Olli had their hearts set on an outdoor gazebo wedding.
Then, with just 15 minutes to go, the rain arrived.
They made the call to move inside to the venue's marquee, but not just a marquee; this one was already beautifully decorated with foliage chandeliers! And the venue staff were incredible and made sure that every floral display came was moved from the original outdoor ceremony space to inside the marquee.
The space was transformed. And the sound of the rain on the roof? It only added to the atmosphere.
Cosy. Intimate. Completely magical.
Would they have loved their gazebo ceremony? Absolutely. But did they feel for even a moment that they'd missed out? Not a chance.
And, as the old saying goes: knots are strongest when tied wet!

Whatever the weather, what matters most is that your ceremony feels completely, authentically yours. And with a little planning — and the right mindset — it will.
